IL-ACDA Summer ReTreat
The Art of Connection
Headliners Dr. Marques Garrett and Dr. Maria Guinand
Connection stands at the core of artistry in choral conducting. In this summer ReTreat we will be led by master conductors, Maria Guinand and Marques Garrett, in the exploration of the paths responsible and sensitive conductor-performers need to consider in bringing choral music to life in a manner that honors artistic, historical, and cultural depth–and beauty. We will experience choral literature from essential Latin American, Spanish, and both idiomatic and non-idiomatic Black compositional traditions as a basis for the wider conversation of connection. Our journey will take place with Maria Guinand as the conductor of our Directors’ Chorus, and with Dr. Garrett as our guide to understand the wider cultural underpinnings of music by a variety of composers, enhancing our connection with composers’ perspectives through models for interpreting scores. An opportunity for a master class with Drs. Guinand and Garrett will also be provided on a first-come, first-assigned basis.

To register for the IL-ACDA Retreat you must be a current member of ACDA. Please have your membership number ready when registering. If you are not yet a member of ACDA or your membership has expired, please join/renew your membership on the ACDA National Website first to obtain your membership number.

CONFERENCE LOCATION and PARKING
Conference Location: Illinois State University, Kemp Recital Hall (and associated venues) 353 School Street, Normal, IL 61761
Parking: IL-ACDA registrants will be provided with free parking on a first-come, first-served basis on the second and third floors of the School Street Parking Garage (behind Kemp Recital Center) at ISU.
HOTEL INFORMATION
Illinois ACDA has contracted with two local hotels for a limited number of rooms to be reserved for conference attendees on 6/19 and 6/20. If interested, please contact these hotels as soon as possible to reserve your rooms; the week of our conference is a very busy period for activities at ISU and in the greater Normal area.
